What is the mission of Fashion Philanthropy?

The mission of Fashion Philanthropy is to use a day of shopping to meet the practical needs of a high school student who has encountered unfortunate circumstances in her life. Additionally each day trip is filled with special pampering tailored to give each girl the confidence to fulfill her potential.

Who is a Fashion Philanthropy candidate?

Each girl that Fashion Philanthropy sponsors is a girl that has risen above difficult circumstances to prove wisdom and strength beyond her years. She has not been handed an easy path but proven herself smart and capable despite her setbacks. A Fashion Philanthropy candidate is on track to graduate from high school and has interest to pursue education after high school. She is someone who we believe has much to offer her community and could use something as simple as some practical clothing items to help her through her school year.

Letter from Co-Founder Aubrey Michaelis:

As a young girl my favorite time of the year was the end of summer when my Mom would take me back to school shopping. Back to school shopping was not only about the fun of fashion it was about deciding who I would be at school this year. My new clothes gave me the confidence to risk defining myself as unique among a sea of my pears, and helped me to build the willingness to take that risk in other areas of my life.

I think that people are charged with giving from what God has given them. Fashion Philanthropy is one small way for me to share from the wonderful experiences of my childhood and the passion for design that I have been given.  -  Aubrey Michaelis

Letter from Co-Founder Trish Roberts:

Working at a large public high school, I see “need” everyday.  Our students are trying to attend classes, do homework, retain knowledge, find themselves, decide on their future goals, hold down jobs, be involved, make friends and many don’t have their daily basic needs met.  I see students in need of food, a place to stay, a safe environment, of clothing to wear, but mainly I see young people in need of hope and a day off from worry and uncertainty.  They are weighed down by their struggles and just barely staying afloat.

Hope.  This is why I love Fashion Philanthropy.  Not only are we meeting a basic need of a young lady, we are giving her hope, we are treating her to a day of love and caring, we are celebrating that she is special, and we are boosting her self esteem.  Our donors are giving more than money for clothes; we are making young ladies feel better about themselves!
