rooms at the ace hotel – seattle

Ace Rooms 1

Below is a look into the rooms at The Ace Hotel in Seattle. All the rooms at The Ace are clean and white with minimal details. The backdrop of white painted bricks reminds you that you are in an old building and gives each room a sense of history. In contrast the bath fixtures are made of stainless steel and the furnishings are sparse. The first room pictured is one of the deluxe rooms. Notice the pivoting panel in the wall that leads you into the hidden bathroom. Very James Bond.

This next room is a standard room. It is clean and white like the other rooms but features bold colored artwork on one whole wall which makes it feel very edging and urban.

The standard rooms each have a wall mounted sink and mirror but share common shower/toilet rooms down the hall. Below are pictures of one of the shared bathrooms.

Lastly, is a deluxe room with a shower behind the bed. How cool is that? A shower behind the bed! This room also features a small patio. The patio is part of a courtyard in the center of the building with an opaque roof over the top. The roof gives the white courtyard a glowing feeling when the sunlight shines through.

the ace hotel – seattle

July 20th, 2010

If you don’t know about the Ace Hotel, you should. In honor of the Ace Hotel I would like to coin a new style, I am calling it “Granola Modern”. The Ace is modern without a doubt, the surprise is the rustic touches. Modern can sometimes be intimidating but the Ace makes all feel welcome and brings mountain murals to the city, who would have guessed? :)

The set up of the hotel feels a little European. The “standard” rooms have wall mounted sinks but share shower/toilet rooms down the hall. I will follow up in the next couple days with some posts about the rooms. It is worth checking back, believe me, they are cool!

pat’s corner in north park, san diego

July 19th, 2010

Here is a little North Park secret called Pat’s Corner. If you have vision and can see great style through a chipped coat of paint or an old tattered fabric then you will love Pat’s Corner. It is full of gems in the rough. If it would have fit in the overhead compartment I would have taken this orange chair home.

pigment in north park, san diego

July 19th, 2010

Today I would like to give you a peak at a little shop in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego. Pigment has some really cute furniture with a mid-century vibe and unique contemporary accessories. If you stop by their shop or their website be sure to check out the artwork by Amy Paul, it is remarkably one-of-a-kind. Super cute shop in a funky little neighborhood.

Tulalip Resort – Tulalip, WA

July 16th, 2010

Here is more on the Tulalip Resort. The Tulalip does a beautiful job of blending earthy with contemporary styles, and bright primary colors with sophisticated touches. I was particularly impressed with the spa. I loved all the birch tree poles. I also thought that the design team chose very interesting light fixtures and did not forget about the details even in pass through spaces like hallways and elevator bays.

room at the tulalip hotel – tulalip, wa

July 13th, 2010

tulalip room 1My husband and I recently stayed at the Tulalip Resort and Casino and I have to admit I was not expecting such a stylish room. The resort has managed to combined clean and contemporary lines with an earthy Native American vibe, and I have to say, it was pretty cool. In the picture to the left you will see a small key drop station in the entryway to the room. The key drop shelf is lit by an art glass pendant light. What a cute idea!

On either side of the bed over sized pendants were used in place of bedside lamps and art glass was used again in the pocket door leading into the bathroom. Kohler Purist fixtures in chrome were another nice modern touch in the bathroom along with tile from Pental in Seattle.

I also thought that the vanity piece in the bathroom was a good use of a narrow space that might normally be ignored.

the city center, las vegas

July 12th, 2010

The City Center is the newest addition to the Vegas Strip. It is a collection of strikingly modern buildings housing hotels, condos, spas, a casino and shopping. Below is an overview of the Aria Hotel and a few pictures of the Mandarin Oriental. I will shoot some more detailed shots of the attractions within The City Center on my next trip in August

Dixie Stark Home – Georgetown, Seattle

July 8th, 2010

My last post about Georgetown features Dixie Stark Home and the unique building that it is located in. Dixie Stark is a custom furniture and accessories showroom with stylish upholstered pieces, case goods, lighting, art work and one of a kind antiques. Her aesthetic is sophisticated and colorful at the same time and, if you need help bringing the look to your own home, Dixie also offers design services.

The other reason why Dixie Stark is getting so much attention lately is because of the building that her showroom is located in. Dixie and her husband completed construction last November on the first commercial building in the United States to be constructed out of cargo containers. Each of the two buildings pictured below are made of six reused cargo shipping containers with connecting walls and roof made from SIPs panels. Both buildings also feature low voltage lighting, green roofs and permeable concrete parking lots to add to their environmentally conscience theme.

Susan Wheeler Home. Georgetown, Seattle

July 6th, 2010

susan wheeler 1

Susan Wheeler Home is a collection of elegant treasures that don’t take themselves too  seriously. As a shop owner I think that Susan’s warm down to earth personality emanates through each piece in the store. She mixes fussy antiques with welcoming fabrics and details that have a sense of humor. The shop is brilliantly pulled together and is a soft sophisticated contrast to the edginess of Georgetown.
